Four steps before the room.
All four matter. Skipping the first is the single most common reason the app comes up without permission to hear anything.

Drag it to Applications
Do not open it from the disk image — settings and screen-recording permission will not survive that. Then eject the image.

Allow Screen Recording
System Settings › Privacy & Security. This is what lets the app hear the other side through system audio.

Pair it to your account
First launch shows an eight-character code. Type it into the dashboard once and this Mac is linked.

Confirm it is invisible
Run the built-in screen-share test once. It captures your display the way a meeting app does and tells you what survived.
